Question from Sierra: “I shoot a Nikon d3100 with a 50mm 1.8 lens. The other night I was trying to take pictures of my son right after the sun started setting. I was having a lot of trouble getting my settings right so that the lighting was good and shutter was fast enough to get a clear picture. What are the right settings for that time of day to get good pictures? “
Nicole: Try lowering you shutter speed and upping the ISO just a bit
Angie: Try setting your camera to “P” and see what aperture it gives you. Go back to aperture setting and dial it down one stop – then play with your ISO.
Terence: I’m a Canon user, but in this situation I’d go to 1600 ISO depending on your distance to subject f/3 to 5 this should allow for a shutter that would work….all depends on how well your camera deals with a 1600 ISO.
