Question from Kristin: “I have been seeing photographers use battery grips, I was wondering what are the benefits for having one? Does it make shooting a lot better? Thank you!”
Critty: It keeps my shoulders and elbow from hurting when I need to shoot vertical. You know that look when your elbow is straight up to you can hit the trigger which becomes sideways?! The grip has a trigger and dial on the side which really helps and it holds 2 batteries for longer battery life!
Julie: I have larger hands for a girl and it helps me have better control of my camera. It also is nice to have the battery longevity it provides, especially for weddings!
Tom: I can shoot forever due to the extra battery. Also grips a lot easier for vertical shots. Highly recommend one!
Christina: I have been shooting vertical with a 70-200mm for almost four hours at a time during high school football games and I am getting a battery grip ASAP! I’m killing my hands trying to make so many adjustments for the constant changing light. I hope it works as well as it should
Dena: All of these are great reasons to get a battery grip. I just bought one from Amazon & I got the off brand one because it was only $25. I thought I’d regret it, but actually I love it!
Plus, it makes my camera look bad-A. ;D
Brian: It has the following benefits
1) It doubles or extends your battery life
2) It has a secondary shutter button, so you’re hand doesn’t have to be on top of the camera when you’re shutting vertical
3) it changes the balance of your camera so that it’s feels more solid, stable..
It does however add weight to your set up. But it adds weight to the back of the camera. which can counter balance your camera if you have a long lens on.
Silver: I got mine from amazon too… LOVE IT!!
Extended battery life
Ease of vertical shooting
Better grip
Lars: also, apart from the aforementioned reasons and benefits, it also ups the frame rate with some camera models. for example in the nikon d300.
Johnny: What Brian Leong said plus many have secondary controls for switching to vertical position
Tami: Dena, what brand did u get and what camera does it go on?
Tia: Can you place the camera on a tripod with battery grip?
Craig: yes you can
