Question from Ashley: “Question: I just upgraded to the Canon 5D markIII. Yay!! Ummm so when you are using auto focus is the red light in the middle supposed to light up or not? Single point focus. I came up from a canon 40 D. I am not used to all these focus points. Any advice or tips would great. Thanks!”

Sara:  It might. I’m not sure. I have a canon and the mark III if it has autofocus, probably means it can’t actually focus at the moment. If its red. Mine does that some times

Sara:  I hope that helps. If not my friend at @516photogrpahy can help

Rebecca: Not sure how many focal points the MK lll has, but there’s more than one ya know! You can move it around, and I highly recommend doing so as your pictures need it!

Jeremy: Yes most Canon cameras have multi point focus built into thrm. It is a great feature to learn to use.

Lissa:  The red light is where the focus is

Christy: The point that is active will light up. Unless you are in servo mode.

Jaime: I would definitely read the manual it will help explain so many if things   (if you haven’t already)

Mohd:  Hi there, I own a mark 3 as well. It’ll not light up like the old mark 2. This is kinda frustrating at first, but u’ll get use to it. This issue has been on some forums. In dark places where I can’t find the focusing spot, I’ll usually ‘choose’ the focus point again. Hope this helps.

Ashley: Thanks for all the tips. I understand the whole multi point focus system. I also primarily only use single point focus. The problem is: My old camera would always have the red light on to show you were focused on your subject…this camera does not do that. I did some more research today and like Mohd Najmin said it does not light up. I read a lot of forums that said people were kind of irritated that it didn’t stay lit. I use single shot a lot, it should light up at least once when I lock focus right? It doesn’t and the manual doesn’t really talk about that. I guess it is how they built this camera.
