Question from Melanie: ” When you’re doing an outdoor shoot on a sunny day, do you use a reflector or something to block harsh sun from causing shadows on faces?”
Reva: i always find shade.
Alicia: I shoot backlit or in open shade if it’s a family, or use a reflector if it’s a senior/couple. 🙂
Kelly: A scrim
Erin: Like above, I find solid shade or I backlight at sunrise or sunset, I try to never shoot midday, too harsh for my style…
Morgan: I try not to shoot during mid day, but when I can’t help it I find shade definitely!!
Jacqueline: most cameras have at automatically now, but if it’s a professional shoot, a reflector can b handy.
Emily: Try to find shade if I can. Other than that I try to have a reflector that doubles as a shoot through.
Emily: Or I use fill light
Mollie: White poster board. =] doubles as reflector.
Stephanie: I use my speed lite as fill light if needed.
Rebecca: I am in need of a new reflector, can someone tell me the best one that also doubles as a shoot through? TIA!
Christina: i am all about he shade. place your client at he edge of the shade where the sun hits the back of your client!
Christy: Get the 5 in 1 reflector and use it without the cover to diffuse the sunlight, or get your subject in open shade and use white to pop light back in. Later in the day is best, when the sun is lower, and you can have your subject’s face in shadow with the sun backlighting them. Then pop in some light with reflector or fill flash.
