Question from Melissa: “When shooting a large group of people I am having a hard time getting their eyes really sharp without having a really noisy background..any tips?
Melissa: So you’re having focusing issues? Having the proper focus on the eyes shouldn’t cause noise in the background….
Christina: the noise if from having your iso up two high I would shoot at f8 possible f10 to get everyone in focus
Christy: Eyes in large group will not be really clear and sharp unless you have a lot of pixels.
Becky: ISO about 400 or less f/stop 8-10
Ashley: Make sure your aperture is good. For single people portraits I use f/2 but for bigger groups use f/5.6 or f/8 so the dof is deep enough. I just shot a family of 10 Sunday and I think the dof was good. As for noise check the ISO like others are saying.
Cynthia: I read a tip once that the f-stop should be equal to or greater than the number of people in the shot. 8 people = f8 or more
Andrea: If you are shooting in a darker situation then I can see why the Noise and focus would be an issue
You really have two choices
1 – light source
Or
2 – Luminance slider on LR for editing
Because bumping up the ISO and having at f8 or higher is all you can do to get a clear image
Kelly: What is your f/stop on? I have to set it to at least f/7 in order to even begin to get everyone in focus. that is why I make sure I have an awesome backdrop (beach, cityscape, fall foliage etc) when I choose it
