Question from Cara: “Question for the photoshop experts! I shoot in RAW and when I open my image up for editing it opens up in the Adobe camera raw program first and looks super sharp! Then after I’ve made any adjustments (if any) and I click open image it seems to lose a lot of its sharpness when it is opened in my CS5 program? Why is that and are there any tips for keeping that sharpness I see in the Adobe camera raw program?”
Jenny: Good question! I’ll be watching this for answers!
Mill: the same happens to me in CS3! I realized that after I convert to JPG I have to check how it looks like using the windows gallery or a program for viewing images and they look much better than in CS3.
Sarah: You have to sharpen all images shot in RAW. You can adjust the sharpness in adobe camera raw under the third tab.
Sandy: Didn’t find an answer, but did come across this. www.luminescentphoto.com/blog/…/get-sharp-with-the-nikon-d800/
Keith: When it opens in CS double click the hand tool (left toolbar) this might help
Andrea: If its converted to JPG, what’s the quality cause that can make a big difference too 🙂
Colleen: hmmm….are you seeing the jpeg? remember, jpegs out of camera have adjustments done to them….color saturation, sharpening, etc. RAW doesn’t…so you have to add your own. But…it sounds like you are seeing a change in the RAW itself??
Kara: Are you saving it in high resolution?
Raymond: Converting from canon DPP to CS4 losing the same sharpness too … A sharpening step is a must for me.
Amanda: I always sharpen in ACR. Slider up to 90 on every single raw image.
Jen: When you open the raw file in cs5, you will need to add sharpening in photoshop. I only have my acr preset to sharpen at 25, but I add all my sharpening in photoshop. You can find free sharpening actions or run a sharpening filter.
Keith: I think the reason you’re seeing the image sharper in ACR is, you have your ACR preferences set to “Apply sharpening to Preview images only”. If you change that to “All images” what you see in ACR is what you’ll get when you open it in to Photoshop.
