Question from Natasha: “Do all lenses fit on that brands bodies. Like do all Canon lenses fit on Canons, Nikons on Nikons, etc. If not, how do you know what lenses will fit on what bodies when you’re upgrading?

Victoria: No. You will need to check their website to make sure you get the correct lens

Heidi:  Pentax fit on Pentax. I have 30 year old lenses that fit on my K20d.

Marci: No they don’t. You have to look up what lenses will and will not fit.

Ange: When I bought my Canon I asked that exact question because in the future I may up grade my body and I didn’t want to spend money Lenses if they were not interchangeable they told me a canon lense will fit all canon bodies

Brian: The only difference is when you go from body types like Nikon dslr f mount to Nikon 1 mirrorless

Amanda: Majority of current Canon lenses fit between most of the bodies. Upgrading from a rebel to a 50, 60, or 7d you won’t need new lenses, but upgrading to a full frame camera, you can only use EF lenses. All EF lenses fit on all the canons, though. The only canon lenses I know of are FD (for 35mm/film cameras), EF-S(crop sensor cameras), and EF (full frame & crop). The EF are the most money. Also, I choosing 3rd party lenses, they should be able to say whether they are compatible with a full frame camera (if that’s what you’d be upgrading to.) I had a sigma lens that I used on my canon rebel, and was still usable on my 50d when I upgraded. But when I upgraded again to my full frame canon, it was like looking through a tunnel, all corners blacked out with a fisheye effect, but not in a good way…although it fit, it was obviously not meant to be. Hope that made sense!

Ian: Most lenses of a certain brand will fit most cameras of that brand. Ex: Nikon f-mount. You can also buy adapters for canons to run lenses from other companies but you cannot buy adapters for Nikons

Lars: most Nikon lenses fit every Nikon body ever made, bar 1) the aforementioned 1-series which are exclusive to that series bodies and 2) the old Nikon rangefinder family but if you have a Nikon slr/dslr body made in the last 50 years, any Nikon slr/dslr lens made in the last 50 years will fit. that’s one of the beauties in Nikon world

Lars: oh, and if you have a full frame Nikon body, don’t get a crop lens. the same goes with canon too.

Jess:  canon ef series lens won’t work on bodies such as the mark ii

Brian: One more thing about Nikon lenses. If your body doesn’t have a motor in it, it won’t focus D lenses you will need to get a G version or you will be stuck manually focusing
