When I started photography in Hawaii, I only shot in natural light outdoors on the beach (this light is its own beast). Once glamour became my niche, I started to create backdrops and shooting glamour portraits using my garage and front porch. I then moved on to a home studio. A small office space with one window that I converted to a little studio space. I created the following images in this small home studio.
For this shot, I used natural light coming from a window about two feet in front of her. I had her in front of a painted foam board and a black painted foam board (V-flats) on either side of her to archive more structure and dimension. In this particular shot she was sitting on a posing box with her hands on her legs. I told her to connect her shoulder to her chin and look down. I then told her to give me a huge laugh.
For this shot, I had her standing in front of a backdrop. The backdrop was a piece of fabric that I found at a fabric store and I pinned it on a foam board. Again, the only light came from the window in front of her. This particular image is shot through white tulle. That’s what created the hazy look and the softness of this image. Simply put a piece of white tulle in front of your lens and start experimenting! It’s fun!
For this image, she was sitting on two posing boxes with her knees up. She was sitting in front of a black foam board and with a black foam board on either side of her to create shadows and dimension. The only light came from the window in front of her. I told her to touch her neck and look at me. When I pose, I will stop them where I see it looks the most natural. I also had the fan blowing to create movement in her hair.
For this backlit image, I had her laying on an ottoman right in front of my window. The window light was diffused by white curtains. I had a big reflector next to me to bounce the window light back to her.
In this image, I had her sitting on an ottoman with the window light behind her. I was sitting right in front of her with a big white poly board behind me that I used as a reflector to bounce the window light back to her whole body. The window light was diffused by big white curtains . Since it was fairly dark in the room, I also had a poly board next to her instead of the wall. This allowed me to bounce some light back on her body and to lighten up the room.
Here, I had her standing in front of black seamless paper. It was fairly dark in the room. I had black foam board (V-Flats) on either side of her. The light came from the window in front of her.
I am a Glamour photographer specializing in woman’s portraiture. I love photographing all woman. It inspires me to make a woman feel beautiful through the photos I take. Because we as woman are never satisfied with ourselves and constantly critique our bodies. I recently fell in love with boudoir photography and I can’t wait to show you some tips on how to rock your boudoir session! I also offer 1:1 mentoring. I teach posing woman and how to utilize natural light in a small studio to create amazing portraits!
