The Whispering Willow is a natural light Newborn & Children’s photographer based on the Wirral in the UK. Her photography started with a passion for recording her 3 boys lives and developed into a small business after requests to capture memories for clients too.
THE SIMPLE APPROACH
I have been photographing newborns for a couple of years now but I still have a lot to learn..upon each session, the baby teaches me something new. It is such a privilege for me to capture those precious first moments of life.
Before I started shooting newborns I used lots of colour and thought I had to have every prop I saw! I have a bucket load of hats, bonnets, tie-backs and coloured wraps…it has cost me a fortune, so much so, I put myself on a prop ban! (LOL)
I have more recently started photographing simpler images…where the focus is on baby and not all the colours and that cute little hat! Since doing this style, my clients have requested it upon each session. Of course they love the little hats and tie-backs still but I have ditched my old props and use beautiful little dainty dresses with dainty tie-backs and various textured wraps to add more variety to my galleries, whilst still keeping the theme simple.
I have found that the simpler the image, the less editing is needed. All I use is Photoshop and tweak images with BP4U newborn action pack, mainly using ‘blanket fader’, ‘bright matte’ and ‘oh so smooth skin’.
I still have a long way to go, but am looking forward to the journey.
