Question: “Sometimes when I shoot inside a public building like a store, library, or restaurant I get that ugly yellowish cast to the images which I fix post production – majority of the time. How can I avoid this in the first place? “
Stacey: It’s a white balance issue. Put it on the fluorescent setting.
Jennifer: maybe custom white balance? like expodisc?
Johnny: Grey card and custom white balance.
Sarah: isn’t it those weird lights they put everywhere like libraries or stores so I would suggest the fluorescent setting
Amanda: White balance– tungsten setting
Amanda: Shoot in raw, set your camera to auto white balance, then adjust in processing.
Daniel: Agreed. It’s the white balance. Grey card, perhaps? 🙂
Amanda: ….or use a gray card and manually set your white balance.
Erin: I love my expo disc! Even camera raw can’t get as good as getting it right the first time! Worth every penny!
Sondra: Auto white balance works OK in most situations but if you want more control in camera and less post, Set white balance. If you can set it manually use cards like Amanda said or set to tungsten, this covers most indoor lighting. If it is mostly florescent lighting there should also be a setting for this. When you have varied lighting the manual with card works best.
Cheryl: You can shoot on auto white balance. It works really well for me.
Colleen: expodisc or grey card REALLY helps…
Janel: Learn to adjust your white balance. It’s pretty simple-find in the menu where it’s located, it will then have you shoot a picture of something all white in the location where you are shooting and fill the entire frame. Done! Yellow gone.
