Question from T’Leah: “I was wondering, is there any FREE editing sites or software that work just as well as LR? I’m not sure if I’ll have the money for LR and need something quick.”

Diane: You can download a trial version of LR and use it for 30 days.

Morgan: Gimp is free, but it is nowhere as good as LR

Stephanie:  Gimp… it’s essentially a free version of Photoshop. It takes more work than Lightroom but you can still do same great things with it. Just look up tutorials and how to’s to get you started 🙂

Kori:  As much as I hate to say it, PicMonkey. It’s all free. Have a lot of similarities to LR….but still, not LR.

David:  Photoshop is where it is at.

Eric:  Pic Monkey is nowhere close to LR.

Tracy: Check out academicsuperstore.com for student versions of software. There are other sites that are similar, even available through adobe

E Shay: Picasa. Free from Google. Download the software and it will give you a good start with lots of options. Easy to use too.

Andrea:  Uh I’ve used free programs in the past and honestly it isn’t worth it, wasting time and photos aren’t as good… Lightroom 4 is possible to find for $130.00 now instead of the original cost. However I would do the free trial and take full advantage for a month and then see if it’s something you can put some $$ into

Kori: I said it’s not LR. But it has similarities. Just not the control LR has.

Sasha:  Do the free trial from adobe. Free programs are free for a reason.

Tony:  You could also look at Corel’s Paintshop Pro (similar to photoshop elements) or Aftershot Pro (similar to lightroom) which looks to be on sale right now for $60

Patty:  For free programs I would try Ribbet and Pixlr. Ribbet has a great feature that allow you to brighten the eyes too.

Tom: If you’re a student or staff you can get LR for $78 from B&H PHOTO.

Gordon: I use Photoscape as a free download. It suits my purposes as a novice but I don’t know how it compares to other programs as I haven’t used them.

Natasha:  I use gimp 🙂

T’Leah: For the people that weren’t so judgmental, thank you. I also have already used the Lightroom for a month free, which is the reason for asking.

Jodie: I’m sorry, call me a witch if you want but if you bought the camera you should factor the editing software in your budget before you start learning. It all goes together. I know of a photog in my area who is CHARGING for shoots that she is editing with PicMonkey! It just infuriates me!!
