Question from Patricia: “I ran a local deal where my clients would pay a low price, and get a photo shoot along with 2 prints, and 3 digital images….it said nothing about the copyright/print release being included….would you include it or charge them for it?”
Jfs Photoguy: in order for most places to print an image a PRINT release needs to be given…NOT a copyright release…they are two totally different things…
Jen: Do a print release…not copyright release
Jfs Photoguy: if you give them a “copyright release” you also give away the rights to those images…meaning that the person owns all the rights and if you would post one of those images, lets say as advertisement or something like that, you can be sued by the client, because you just gave your rights to those images away….
Heather: I would include the print release. You don’t want to do a bait and switch and make your customer pay more than what they thought they were going to pay. If digital prints are included in a package you should either include the release or let them know, prior to the purchase, that it isn’t included.
Suz: Whenever I hear digital images I typically think of using them on Facebook etc still having the logo on it abd then having it smaller res. if ur giving them prints tho I don’t see a need for the print release or digital images
Jamie: How can you give digital images w/o a print release? You would piss me off, get bad wom from me and lose me forever as a potential client.
Adriana: If you give images on a disc always include a print release. Otherwise some places won’t print the pictures without permission from the photographer
Patricia: Thanks everyone for their advice…I appreciate it
