1. Be Patient: We recently got a new puppy and this has required a whole new level of patience out of me! I wait for the right moment to take pictures because she is not following any commands yet!
2. Get down on their level: I sit on the floor most of the time, not only to get her used to the camera but to be on her level and have her eyes in line with mine.
3. Change your point of view and focus: Go up or down, change your point of view. Focus on their nose or paw, not always the eyes, it makes your pictures more interesting! 4. Let them be dogs: It can be frustrating when they are not listening and won’t sit or stay where we want them to, but if you just let them do what they want it can be just as cute!
5. Make the moment happen again: Sometimes I see something really cute, but I don’t have my camera ready in time, so I try to make the moment happen again. She looks out the front door all the time, so as soon as I was on the front porch with my camera, she appeared in the window!
6. Treats and a helper can be helpful: I wanted to get her to sit and look straight at me so I had my son stand next to me with a toy. We had to get her back to her spot near the wall many times and change from a toy to a treat. I have found that it is better to give the treat when you are totally done with the pictures and not in the middle. They catch on quickly and expect it!
