Question from Roxanne: “Hey guys! I’m thinking of buying my first camera, I’m kind of amateur so I don’t know which camera I should buy, my options are Nikon D5100 or D3200 which you guys recommend? And with what lenses I should it buy? you know for start, I’m in photography classes and I think I should but my own camera”
Rachel: My first Nikon was a D60. LOVED it. It served me well. I actually miss that camera – it was a great one.
Corbi: I have a Canon rebel xsi and I love it
Brian: Get the 5100 if you are taking photography classes I foresee that you will out grow the 3100 faster.
The natural progression lens from the kit is 18-200 3.5-5.6
Also look into a nifty fifty
Albita: 5100 is what I am using and I enjoy. It serves my purpose as a beginner
Sandy: Just a thought but maybe getting the one you would use in your classes…
Tawny: I love my D5100!
Andrea: I have the D3100 and love it!!! I would recommend the 3200 or the 5100, I think it’s just a matter of price at that point. They’re both great beginner cameras! You can go to nikon.com and do a side by side comparison of the 2. Then you can see what one has which the other doesn’t and decide what features are most important for you. I just yesterday bought a nifty fifty (50mm 1.4 lens) which is the BEST PORTRAIT LENS EVER! But it’s a pretty big investment for a beginner. I had my kit lens (18-55) and 55-200 that the 3100 comes with for a long time and those 2 were good enough. For a beginner you don’t need much more. I also then got a Sigma 18-250 all purpose lens just so I didn’t have to lug around the 2 separate lenses, but that was just for convenience more than anything. GOOD LUCK.
Kim: D5100
Christina: I’m a Nikon girl too! Get a full frame lens and camera. I wish someone would have told me this at first. I have a Nikon d700 with my lens I use 99% of the time, 35mm 1.4.
Pat: I have a D3100. I was tossing up between that and the D5100. I’m still not sure which on I like best. If I’m not mistaken, I think the 3100 had a bigger screen. I’m not sure though.
Aneesa: I have the 3100 and I LOVE it. My cousin has the 5100 and she & I both do not like it. It is harder to find correct settings, and in my opinion, dosent take as good of pictures! Good Luck!
Melanie: I think Canon’s lenses are superior, so if you ever see yourself really expanding as a photographer, start with Canon.
