Question from Aaron: “Question- I am shooting a wedding at night with candle light. Can any one recommend a good low light lens for Nikon? Thanks”
Amy: 24-70
Rania: 50mm 1.4
Robert: Depends on what you are wanting to do, but when I have done weddings and needed a low light I used a 50mm 1.4, 24-70mm 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8. You may want to look at using a monopod as well.
E Shay: The 24-70 if you can swing it on that length of zoom…if not, I would go with the 70-200. It will be a little more noisy than the 24-70, but more versatile in case you need to be shooting from the back of the church or location.
Al: Aaron -Anything with a fast lens like a F1.2 or 1.4. With NIK Color Effex Pro you can bring out a lot of detail. The problem is that in most shots taken slower than 1/60 sec you get blur from camera shake or movement from those being photographed. Do some experiments with fill flash coming off a back wall or ceiling or using 1/2 power or less on the flash.
Tiffany: 35mm 1.8
Colleen: any 1.4 up to a really good 2.8 (i.e 70–200 or 24-70)….but you’ll need flash to avoid people movement and you’ll have to bounce it and let the couple know that flash will affect the relatively dark ceremony. I would also drag the shutter with flash so that you don’t get the ‘black tunnel’ in the background. Alternatively, if it will be super dark, you might suggest posing some photos (where they stay still) after the ceremony to avoid any flash interruptions…. This is a tough one…
Kelli: Tripod and fast glass.
