Question from Cheryl: “Im just wondering what you export your LR files as…I was exporting at 300 dpi and setting to 10″ at longest length….”

Kristina: goood question , ihave same one lol….i export at 300dpi but am always puzzled at length, etc if you are exporting vertical and horizantal images

Paul: well you can always adjust the physical dimensions to suit, if thats the issue. I normally have a large TIFF file and/or PSD at around 7000 px on its longest length, a standard jpeg at 1700px, and a web based at around 600-1000px

Bridget: Check with the printer you are using. I usually save at 300dpi, no resampling, full jpg quality, full size for archiving. Many printers want the files saved at jpg quality setting 10, so when printing I do that and also resize for the print I’m making.

Kim:  it depends on what you are using them for. that’s the correct settings if you are going print them or burn to a CD to give to a client. for blogs and facebook the dpi only needs to be 72. I usually resize for the long edge to be 1000 and quality to be 80.

Cheryl: so in lightroom I set it to long side at 10″ and 300 dpi is good enough?   thansk guys!!

Kim: if you are sending the files to be printed I would not change the length or width of the pic. But yes the dpi would be at 300.
