Question from Shay-Lynn: “Would you rather have a Nikon or Canon, and why?”
Kat: Great question!! I started with Pentax then went to Canon (becase my Rebel was on sale at Costco, lol). I too am curious about the Canon vs Nikon debate. I’m looking into Nikon and have read reviews that you will spend less money over all on lighting and lenses with Nikon, and that they have a better lighting system in place. Personally, I’m excited to see what others have to say. I was actually planing on going to a local camera shop this week to see both cameras, compare different models, get more information about specifics, and see if I can get a “feel” for Nikon. Good luck!
Timothy: Ha. Not a good question. Best thing would be to go to your local shop and try them both out. See which one feels best in your hands , which ones menus are easier for you to navigate etc. in the end it’s you who makes the photo not the camera.
Timothy: Nikon lenses are more expensive than Canon you will spend more with them than Canon. With Canons addition of the 600 ex-rt the lighting systems are pretty equal now.
Karla: I read TONS of reviews before I went with Nikon, as well as many postings like this. The truth is you will be fine with either one. The reason I went with Nikon was I felt Nikon owners loved their cameras in the same way Mac people love their computers. That’s a very non-scientific way to make a decision! . Also, didn’t have a lot of money to spend on lenses initially and I thought Nikon’s kit lenses were better (at the time anyway). Both are good though! Read a lot, pick one up and make a decision from there. Good luck!
Peter: it comes down to personal taste. Both are similar and both have strengths and weaknesses. Really depends on what is your area of photography and which camera suits it best.
Amber: I myself have always had a canon….never really tried a nikon….I think it’s the same with having a vehicle, some people like Fords while others like dodge..It’s all person preference
Lesley: Canon. It’s as simple as: I was taught in college on a Canon and am therefore used to one. I also find Nikons more difficult to navigate (though that likely goes back to being taught on a Canon)
Kelly: Sony. I’m the oddball in a industry of Nikon & Canon. ;o)
Chris: Canon!
Shonta: true story: i didn’t like nikon b/c of ashton k. advertising them. That’s basically the only reason. I like my canon:)
Jaye: I went with Canon because the photographer I worked with when I started out used Canon and she sold me her used gear for cheap. Most of my photog friends used Canon as well so it was easier to work together. I have nothing against Nikon, though. They have some great cameras and very comparable lenses. Nothing wrong with either side.
Lavish Lens: I’m a canon user, but its definitely personal preference. You need to “try before you buy” I always say!
Chris: Canon Just a brand loyal kind of person.
Justus: Nikon. I like the feel and interface.
Natasha: I like canon due to the easy usage of it, but like most people have been commenting, it comes down to personal prefrance!
Steve: I use a Sony,to be honest,I’d be happy with my homemade cardboard pinhole camera, its not the quality of camera that matters, its the quality of your photographic eye!
Tim: It doesn’t matter! I started with Nikon so that’s what I use. The two companies always try to outdo each other so they will both have quality products.
Tracy: Canon because its all I’ve ever used. I tried a friends Nikon and wasn’t impressed. I trust my rebel.
Diana: One major factor is ergonomics, how the camera feels in YOUR hands, how easy it is for your to navigate the menus and settings. Everyone I tried a canon I felt like I was trying to write with my left hang..so I decided on a Nikon since that’s what it felt right to me.
Deirdre: It doesn’t matter what camera your choose. Truly! It’s a tool for expressing one’s art/craft. With today’s technology, the general public can take decent snaps. But it’s the “eye” that makes you stand out. You could accomplish that with any camera. Concern yourself with pleasing yourself. There will always be Nikon vs Canon debates… I chose Sony. I love my cameras. But I would still be happy with a cheap cam from a department store and would achieve the same result. Good luck and remember, Please Yourself.
Melissa: I’ve always had and has been a Canon person
Jennifer: I use canon. But it was what I tried first and I liked it. It all depends which feels better in your hands. Each brand has pros and cons.
Michelle: CANON ROCKS!!!
Brandi: I learned Canon in college and then later, as a gift, started using Nikon. Never got very comfortable with the Nikon so I just recently went back to Canon!! It is a matter of personal preference but I choose Canon over Nikon any day!!!
Cortney: Canon is great for sports (hence all the white Canon telephoto lenses on the sidelines during football games), and Nikon is good for portraiture. But I use a Canon for both, sports and portraits. It’s just your preference.
Shay-lynn: thanks.
Phoebe: I’m a Nikon girl!
Sandi: I use both personally when I am doing portraits candids or nature I use the canon I use nikon for anything with action sports wildlife children ect .. I seem to get less blur when the day is turning to night with the nikon but better night shots with the canon… hmmm not sure if that helps but in all honesty i think it depend on ur genre of photog and personal preference .. I like to keep things complicated lol
Miguel: jajaja sony jaja!! just a joke!!
Willow Tree Images: Keep calm and carry a Nikon
Shay-lynn: thanks everyone
