Question from Tina: “I have a Nikon d7000, looking to get a second body (the d600) I do portrait work and some weddings coming up. The lenses I have so far are 10-20 mm (sigma EX); 17-55 2.8 DX; 18-200 Nikon; 70-200 2.8 (sigma EX) and 50 mm 1.4 (nikon). With the money I was saving by not buying the d800, I wanted to get another lens, which one would make the most sense and should I trade in one of the ones that I have if I am looking to get either 24-85 3.5 or 70-300 4.5. They have a rebate going on so time is a little bit of an issue”
Kelsey: I think I would do the 24-85.
Whendie: I have a Sigma 28 – 300 lens which I bought absolutely years ago with my first proper 35mm camera. I know this is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I find this lens brilliant for using at weddings because it is versatile enough to take group shots and zoom in for those candids. Of course this is just my personal opinion.
Tamron have a 28 – 300 lens out now which has image stabilizer
Timothy: Neither you already have both those lengths covered in the other lenses which are also better. I would get another prime like a 35mm or get the D800 and use it as your primary.
Brian: Keeping a DX and a FX body can be hard. You can use your FX lenses on your d7000, but a DX lens on the D600 will make that body a crop body. I would keep that in mind when you decide which route you want to go.
Which body will be your primary body? I would gear up for that body.
Tina: ‘m thinking that the d600 would be my primary…
Meaghan: I would stop putting money into DX lenses – sell them all, sell your 7000 and get serious with an FX body and accompanying lenses. I’d recommend the D700, keep your 50mm, loose the 10-20, 18-200, and 17-55 as they are consumer lenses not pro lenses and pick up a 24-70 if you’re serious about wedding work .
Andrea: Celia Rodriguez-Pinela I could have sworn this is you! lol
Kimberly: I’m right there in the same boat!! I was lookin’ at the d800 though
Tony: I also have a D7000 and planning to get a D600 after Christmas. I have the tamer on 28-75 2.8 which has been great on my D7000. I’m hoping to add a sigma 70-200 2.8 next year as well. Anyone who has this lens, how we’ll does it do on a d7000?
Chelsie: I just got the D600, it is amazing and pretty similar to the D7000 so the transition was really easy. I would definitely invest in that if you do a lot of portrait/wedding work. As for lenses, I would keep the 50mm and sell the rest and get a nikkor 24-70 – best investment you can make!
Chelsie: Oh, basically what Meaghan said…
Erick: Invest in the 24-70… this is a MUST have lens!
Cecilia: Andrea Bruzzese-Boschelli I’m innocent.
Tina: Thank you all!!!
