Question from Amanda: “I brought a bridge camera quite recently after asking advice from a local photographer, as I wanted to move my hobby onto a more professional level. I have quickly outgrown this camera and went on the hunt yesterday and had a play with a few, I LOVED the sony a77 slr with 3 different lenses but quite pricey for a new into the world of photography person like myself. Any personal reviews on this camera ??”

Kimberly: I personally like Nikon. What is the camera you are currently using?

Jael: Nikon

Mandi:  I have the Sony a55 and I love it. I was considering upgrading to the 77 actually.

Robin: Love my canons. I have being using Canon since the start

Holly: You’ll get a different preference from every photographer you ask, I’m a nikon, if you love the camera, go for it. Your personal preference matters most.

Jaye: Stick with Canon or Nikon. While consumer level Sonys may be OK, there is really nowhere to move up and you may soon outgrow it and find yourself switching brands and completely re-investing because of it. I use Canon and love it. If you want to go pro look into the Canon 5Dc and an 85 f1.8 or 50 f1.4 lens. Great starting combo for portrait photography.

Although I do know a small handful of Sony newborn/baby photographers that love their cameras. But they will also tell you it’s frustrating to find used gear since so few people use Sony. With Canon and Nikon you can easily find more affordable lightly used gear out there.

Christina: I agree with Holly. I’m a Nikon girl as well. I’m not sure how serious you are in to doing photography but if I had to recommend a camera I would say to purchase a full frame camera and lens. This will save you money in the long run. I have the Nikon D700 and use my 35mm 1.4 lens daily for photoshoots.

Sondra: I have a Sony a330 DSLR. Like you I outgrew my bridge camera quickly. Very pricey but I may say well worth it. Hard to outgrow cause you can always buy new lenses and filters and accessories. I chose the sony over it’s competitors for simple reason. at the time sony was the only one to offer live view shoot mode, like the bridge and most point and shoots you can shoot from the view finder or the LCD screen. The LCD screen shoot mode also has a tilt screen Great for macros in a tight space. I have not been disappointed yet. I have owned my sony for 2 years and use it everyday. The only complaint I have for sony is they need better noise reduction for long exposures and high ISO. But that easily fixable in post.

Amanda: thank you all xx
