Question from Vasthy: “I have a question for my fellow photogs. I currently give all photos in a CD but sometimes i have to be chasing people around to deliver the Cd or i have to go to the post office and send it and that is some extra money, i was wondering what you guys think on just emailing the photos, that way they can download them whenever they want and right into their computer?!”

Kathi:  I sell that option through my online store so I don’t have to trek all over town looking for people.

Becca:  An advantage of digital downloads is that you may not have to pay sales tax (depending on your state) because you aren’t giving a tangible good. However, people are more likely to lose digital files. I offer my clients two options: pick-up at my day job or pay $3 for shipping a disc.

Jael: I am starting to do the emailing also but for small sessions and specials I offer. For big sessions and events, I do the CD

Sarah: I send disks to all clients, and include postage in my price. It never costs very much anyway, a few dollars maybe.

Renae: I tell them the cd is available at my studio to pick up whenever. Too easy

Jen: I offer a CD and they can meet me at a location of my choosing or they can come pick it up from my place.

Reva:  i would rather do digital download. but some clients have no clue how or do not download until the link expires. cd is easier. you can try dropbox, mediafire, or sendspace

Oona:  Well, I will still have to mail, but I am looking into flash drives…

Lacey: Love Dropbox

David: Most people want a hard copy, it is why they are paying for a service to begin with usually besides the quality of photos.

Valerie:  I still like to give a cd. Clients like something tangible, and it adds value your service. I have custom imprinted cds that also add to the brand

Kaela: I agree with Sarah Jean.

Kaela:  Valerie Pyke where do you get those cds?

Timothy:  Forget CD’s. Check out PASS it is the sharing revolution. CDs are of the past PASS is where the industry is going

Dave: Use U Send it

Much quicker and won’t clog up email

Carolynn: The times that I used a photographer he offered for me to pick it up or for a small charge he would mail it. Put it into your customers hands

Whitney: I use Shootproof and LOVE it! You can sell digital downloads and it is so much easier and faster!

Tracy: Dropbox!

Hedy:  I did a photo shoot and the client said that they were gonna buy prints but also wanted a cd…. Well she paid for session fee, didn’t have change so I made her a print, then purchased the cd and made an order to buy the prints….. Well she never bought the prints and just paid for the cd….. The good thing is that the images on the cd were low resolution so they can’t be printed!!!!! Never again will I sell CDs….. I learned my lesson!!!

Carolyn:  Photoshelter is a great, easy digital download site. It costs a little bit a month, but it’s so easy to use, and you can sell prints and pay per image if you want!

Analise: You could definitely try Dropbox or a similar site.

Sonya:  I have yousend it and huge thumbs up as well as shootproof( thanks to this fb page and a liker who recommended it)
