Question from Melissa: “Wondering what people’s experience with using a 24-70mm 2.8 for weddings is (if it is a lens to use)? I figure it would be ideal but just want others inputs, thanks!”
John: Pretty good all round lens to have – for weddings I’d yes too – but it will depend on your style !
Tabitha: Every person I have talked to tells me to definitely use the 24-70
Shelbi: I rented one for a wedding in August and fell in love! It is my next big purchase!
Ashley: I used to use a 24-70 and a 70-200 for wedding ceremonies, and then I switched to using a 35 1.4 and a 70-200. I love my new setup. I really only use the 35 for processional/recessional/wide angle shots, and then the 70-200 for the remainder of the ceremony. I also have a 50 1.4 and an 85 1.4 in my undfind bag I wear if I need to swap those on for something, but usually it’s just the 35 and 70-200.
Michelle: I just rented this for a baptism I’m doing in a week. I thought I’d give it a shot before putting it on my wish list!
Heather: Love it! This coupled with the 50mm 1/4 and 70-200 VRII 2.8 is all you need. It is my go-to walk around lens. I am working on getting the telephoto now 🙂
Colleen: an absolute necessity if you have family shots or large wedding parties that you are shooting indoors….ie. in the church….the wide aperture and wide lens are the perfect combo. If Nikon…it’s a sharp lens, too…
Becca: I liked the 24-70 on my crop frame camera (actually, I have the older and less expensive version, the 28-70) but now that I have a full frame camera, I really want the 70-200!
Morgan: I just rented it for a wedding this weekend! So excited!
Emily: I LOVE it. I have that lens, literally the best wedding lens. Just what you need for most shots. It might be nice to have a longer lens (70-200) on hand in case you got stuck waaay in the back of a church. But you should be good with a 24-70 and cropping in if you can’t get close enough.
Andrea: Fantastic for close ups and group shots. Works great for either. It’s my main lens right now that I own and use
Johnny: You can use it, but I would also have a backup with something like a 70-200 2.8 on it for shots from afar during the ceremony.
Heather: I have one! It’s amazing! I’ve been shooting with a DSLR since 2006. I upgraded my kit lens to the Tamron version of this lens and its all I’ve use for the past six years. Portraits, live concert, weddings.
Melissa: thanks all for your responses 🙂 my hubby will be running the 70-200 2.8 but i want something besides my 50mm 1.8!
