Question from Jennifer: “My question is about lighting. I have a Rebel t1i, a Speedlite 430 and my favorite lens is my 50mm 1.8. I’m trying to figure out how to properly use a flash and have had success with bouncing it off walls and ceilings. Now I’m wondering what I should purchase next. A diffuser? A card to bounce my flash? Both? Really want to work on my indoor techniques and any advice would be appreciated. White walls and ceilings are obviously not always available :)”

Rosalie:  Gary Fong products are awesome! They have a few different diffusers that work quite well and are frequently used when photographers are working in bars and clubs.

Erick:  Check out Gary Fong’s Lightsphere… I love it!

Timothy: You are better of sticking to using walls and ceilings then buying small diffusers. I would get a large white reflector to bounce off when you don’t have walls, or a shoot thru umbrella.

Jeremy: Gary gong or omni bounce work well.

Henry:  Amazon.com and get a single light stand, shoot through umbrella and light bracket. Also Cowboy Studios for a $30 set of radio transmitters and practice some single light off camera flash 🙂

Henry: I have this setup and got it all for under $100

Gabby: Fong!

Jennifer:  Thanks everyone!

Jim: your best investment – wireless triggers to get that flash off camera. Forget diffusers or the fong products. OCF makes a dramatic difference. You can get cheap Yongnuo’s or Cactus v5’s (no e-ttl)…a little pricier with Pixel Kings (e-ttl)….or cream of the crop with Pocket Wizards or Radio Poppers

Melanie: Not personally a fan of Gary Fong. I have the Demb Flip-it. Love it. You can see my Demb photos here:http://www.spiffypix.com/p460838954
