Question from Glenda: “I’m in the “market” for a lighting setup (softbox, etc) for my new home studio. I don’t want a bottom-of-the line “starter kit”, but since photography isn’t my prime business, I can’t afford anything “high end”. Any suggestions?”
Sabrina: Good question!
Della: Check out Cowboy Studio
Brian: Every poor man’s studio first starts off with a lightstand, a cold shoe adapter,a flash with an umbrella.
Brian: Also once you get a lighting set up, you must then think how are you going to trigger the lights, if you are using Nikon, you can make use of their CLS system and have true TTL. I’m not sure if canon has a off camera flash triggers built in.. if not you may need to get light triggers, such as cybersyncs, radio poppers, or PW’s
Jacquelyn: Alien Bees
Mandy: Cowboy studio!!!! And you can find. Lot of their products on Amazon
Rebecca: I use a Cactus to fire my flash wirelessly. There are some limitations, mostly on how far away you can be, but in studio work that doesn’t matter. I think I spent about $40 for it.
Rebecca: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Professional-Monolight-Studio-Flash-Strobe-Photography-Light-180W-/200761538198?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ebe51f696…..I’ve also used a light just like this and LOVED it! I am ordering this within the next week. There are also great light hack pins on Pinterest to give you some ideas too!
Brian: If you’re buying strobes, then it would be very interesting to watch this very informative youtube video on Watt Seconds by Mark Wallace Adorama
Timothy: Two Words “ALIEN BEES” get them, and forget the other cheap stuff.
