When I chose to switch to IPS, in person sales, it was to provide clients with a more personal experience. I think it is important to be with them through the entire process. Originally, I provided clients with an online gallery and left them to fend for themselves; choosing their own products. I found that in the process clients had difficulties knowing what would best suite their needs.
Through experience, I have formulated five important steps to give clients the best experience and customer service.
1. Questionnaires: I always send a questionnaire to my clients, prior to their session, to learn about them, their expectations, and what products they are most interested in. Knowing this information, allows me to better tailor their session. For instance, knowing which products they are interested in gives me the opportunity to focus on those during their reveal/ordering session. You may even want to bring samples of those specific products.
2. Scheduling Their Reveal/Ordering Session: I schedule reveal/ordering at the end of the sessions before leaving. This keeps clients from being in the dark as to when their reveal will be. I also find that this helps keep me on schedule with my editing process, when I have a deadline to meet.
3. Proofs: I print all my clients images in 4×6 for the reveal. This facilitates the ordering process; “yes”, “no”, and “maybe”. I believe it adds to the experience when clients can hold the actual images in their hands, rather than viewing them on a screen. At the end I like to offer them as a thank you or offer them with one of my bigger packages.
4. List: I help my clients make a list to better organize what they need to order. I ask them questions like: “Are there specific family members you want to order something for? Are there specific walls in your home you would like to display your portraits on?”
5. Delivery: Photography is a luxury item and I treat it as such. I wrap my clients products to give them a boutique look and hand deliver them; I never mail them. Sales are really all about the clients experience. Since I have switched to IPS I have seen a substantial increase in client satisfaction, as well as increase in orders.
