Hi! My name is Yuliya Levit. I was born in Moscow, Russia and came to New York in 2001. I am a New York based family documentary photographer, striving to photograph not just a person, but rather a fleeting emotion, a glimpse into how he or she feels at the moment. When people I photographed look at the picture many years later, I want them to say “oh I remember that very moment! I felt so happy/lost/ excited…”. The true to life, documentary component of the photography is very important to me. I try to direct my subjects as little as possible and let them live their usual life in front of my lens. I have opened my photography business a bit over a year ago and since than had several exhibits on both coasts with my documentary projects “Speak Memory Project” and “Emmigration”.
New York Photographer of the Week: Yuliya Levit
These pictures are from three sessions with a wonderful designer Natasha Mileshina. We brainstormed the ideas for the maternity session together both indoor and outdoor and it was a pure fun and joy to work with her. The session with the baby was at 10 weeks when I joined Natasha and baby L. on their walk in the park.
