This is going to sound pretty cheesy, but dreams can come true. Maybe not the one where you marry a real live, stud-of-a prince or win millions in the Powerball… However, the dream of having a successful photography business can become a reality. It just takes time, practice, skill, patience and an excellent marketing strategy.
BP4U’s “Beginner’s Guide to: Getting Started in Wedding Photography” is chock full of insightful tips and invaluable information that’ll bring you not just a few steps — but leaps and bounds — closer to that dream.
Step One: Set The Camera Down for a Second
Take a second to set down your camera and take a good look at the “big picture” of your photography business. Once you do this, ask yourself what you’re doing to book new clients.
Let’s face it. There are a lot of amazing photographers out there who are creative just like you. What sets you apart from them — what books you clients — is a proactive approach to garnering business.
Consider the fact that it isn’t always about the pictures. Sometimes it’s about your company. Not focusing on the business aspect of your photography career is akin to not putting gas in your car. You aren’t going anywhere without fuel.
3 Ways Kick Start Your Photography Business
- Dive head first into the online/social media pool. Start a business page on every medium that’s out there (Twitter, blogs, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and actively engage current and potential clients.
- Price your packages to sell (but don’t cut yourself short). Consider how much other wedding photographer’s are charging (some have prices listed on their site) in your area. Also factor in whether or not you have much experience. As you gain more experience, charge more.
- Give current or past clients incentive to spread your name. Ideas: Host giveaways on your blog or Facebook page and give people extra entries for sharing; Give XX% off their shoot (or a free poster print, etc.) to a client who refers someone else to you if that referral books.
